The Legal Operations Manager ("LOM") assists the EVP, General Counsel in managing the Legal Department and in the delivery of legal services, including optimizing and streamlining department processes, managing and implementing the use of technology and organizational solutions, and supporting the Legal Department with day-to-day operations. The role includes but is not limited to interacting with associates, neutrals, clients, and outside counsel on a variety of matters to facilitate the support of the organization by the Legal Department. The LOM also oversees legal project management, process improvement, and analytics programs, in addition to serving as a member of various committees to facilitate the workflow between Legal and other functional and operational departments.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the Legal Department's processes and workflows, and serves as the department's project manager.
  • Manages protocols and processes to include communication with associates and neutrals regarding compliance.
  • Manages and analyzes requests and issues related to updates of Arbitration Rules and case administration protocols; drafts updates regarding the same.
  • Oversees the administration of the National Arbitration Committee; drafts legal and administrative decisions and any additional correspondence; tracks and maintains NAC decisions, and updates the NAC template correspondence.
  • Supports the department as needed in responding to subpoenas, litigation, government inquiries, and related matters. Identifies documents responsive to subpoenas and the location of such records; coordinates document collection and production.
  • Maintains and updates the Legal Department's files and records, including management of disclosures for outside counsel and organizing contracts and program cases.
  • Acts as a resource to associates and neutrals company-wide on issues related to alternative dispute resolution.
  • Represents the Legal department at the National Operations Committee ("NOC") monthly meetings as a member.
  • Participates in the Arbitration Administration Committee ("AAC") monthly or quarterly meetings as a member. Acts as a resource for Case Managers.
  • Participates in the Reference & Special Master Committee ("RSM") monthly or quarterly meetings as a member. Acts as a resource for Case Managers.
  • Serves as a liaison between the Legal department and other departments such as Finance and IT.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree Required
  • Paralegal Certificate or JD Plus
  • 4-6 years of working in legal operations, project management or role in a corporate legal department or law firm. Required
  • 4-6 years For internal candidates, proven ability as Senior Case Manager, or equivalent position. Required
  • Computer literate and proficient in all software programs required for the position. (Required proficiency)
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple responsibilities and tasks in a fast-paced environment. (Required proficiency)
  • Verbal and written communication skills. (Required proficiency)
  • Critical analysis and reading comprehension skills. (Required proficiency)
